Origins of Persian

Middle Persian (circa 3rd century CE) grew during the Sassanian Empire, written in an Aramaic-based script, leaving traces in Zoroastrian texts.

Modern Persian

By the 9th century CE, after the Arab conquest, Persian adopted the Arabic script and words like "کتاب" (ketaab, book). This was when poets like Rumi and Hafez turned it into a treasure of art. Today, you’ll hear Farsi in Iran, Dari in Afghanistan, and Tajik in Tajikistan; different voices sharing the same soul.
